The Great Call Award
The Great Call Award (GCA) recognizes a “great call” in the sense that what was done makes those of us in officiating feel good. Often what took place could be considered “small” in scope and duration but quite “large” in its impact on someone or to officiating in a general sense. When a sports official takes time and care to help someone in dire need, that is a great call made by an official having nothing to do with a game situation.
The GCA is unique in that it is often given in recognition of officials demonstrating community spirit, by which all the rest of us get to puff our chests out.
