RACINE, Wis. — Three thousand sports officials from the Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association Referee Committee (EPSARC) will become members of the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) in January/February 2019. It is one of the largest group of officials signed by NASO to join its ranks.

EPSARC is made up of 3,000 officials, including 1,600 adult and 1,400 youth members. With this addition, NASO membership will grow to an expected all-time high of close to 30,000 sports officials, who are located primarily in the United States.

“On behalf of the NASO Board of Directors, I want to recognize the commitment of the EPSARC to providing the best support possible for their officials. As a fellow NASO member, I recognize the unparalleled benefits of sport-specific information and insurance coverage provided by NASO to its over 26,000 members,” NASO Board Chair Debbie Williamson said.

“NASO is committed to leading the way with $6 million in liability insurance coverage for any member officiating any organized contest. Couple that with expert legal advice and support, and our officials are backed by the best in the business in what many would term as trying times for sport officials. Knowing NASO has our back should prompt others to follow the steps of EPSARC to join the ranks of the world’s leader in sport officiating, NASO,” she added.

“I am thrilled that the Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association Referee Committee agreed to this historic partnership with the National Association of Sports Officials,” said Jim Bollinger, President, Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association. ”I believe it will introduce a whole new world of benefits for referees in Eastern Pennsylvania, especially those that officiate high school and college soccer, and sports other than soccer. I foresee our new relationship with the NASO multiplying many times over to benefit US Soccer referees within Eastern Pennsylvania.”

The largest number of youth officials in the U.S. will now receive Referee magazine through their NASO membership. Reaching out to recruit and retain younger officials is an important and growing mission for NASO.

Added NASO President Barry Mano, “It is very exciting for all of us at NASO to now include among our membership the 3,000 adult and youth soccer officials of EPSARC. This partnership will be a platform for EPSARC’s members to enjoy educational, training and insurance benefits without parallel in officiating. NASO looks forward to working with the officials and the leadership of EPSARC to help soccer officiating in Eastern Pennsylvania be more fulfilling, fun and forward looking.”
