A Tour of Tucson (optional activity)
Tucson has a rich, colorful history filled with Wild West adventures and elegant entertaining. Come along to learn about the famous inhabitants of Tucson’s past. We’ll see the oldest neighborhood made up of 1850s Sonoran adobe homes, the railroad era Armory Park Neighborhood and the “Mansions of Main Street” also known as “Snob Hollow.” The tour highlight will be the beautiful Mission San Xavier del Bac located on the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation. This mission completed in 1797, is considered one of the finest examples of mission architecture in the United States, a blend of Moorish, Byzantine and late Mexican Renaissance styles. Then see the Presidio San Agustin del Tucson, a reconstructed fort located in the Tucson Origins Cultural Park.

Along the way we’ll drive up “A” Mountain for a view of the entire valley (don’t forget your camera) and finally, make a stop at the historic Old Town Artisans shops to peruse local arts and crafts.

Guest Welcome Reception
NASO and the Southern Arizona Guides Association welcome our guests to the 2009 Sports Officiating Summit. This event provides a great opportunity to make new acquaintances and exchange experiences from across the country. Plus – get the inside scoop on the sites and sounds of the city.

The Officiating Industry Luncheon
NFHS executive director Bob Kanaby and NASO president Barry Mano share observations on the successes, trends, issues, challenges and the outlook for future officiating in this luncheon co-hosted by the NFHS and NASO.

Gold Whistle Award® Celebration*
Join us as we celebrate officiating’s highest honor — the NASO Gold Whistle Award® — during an elegant evening banquet. NASO is privileged to have recognized the efforts of outstanding officials with both the Gold Whistle Award® and the Mel Narol Medallion. No other event in our history pays tribute to officiating quite like the Gold Whistle Award® Celebration.

The NASO Gold Whistle Award® is given to an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to the betterment of sports officials and the officiating industry. This year’s honoree will be the 22nd recipient to receive the award, joining an elite group of past winners.

NASO’s Mel Narol Medallion Award also recognizes outstanding contributions to the officiating community as well as NASO. The award recipient will be the eighth such honoree and join other organizations or individuals as past recipients.

This celebration is not to be missed. You’ll receive enormous satisfaction and overwhelming pride in knowing you are part of the officiating community — while at the same time helping to recognize officiating’s highest honors.
