Sports officiating leaders from all levels of sports will gather to discuss this year’s Summit theme, Officiating to a Standard. Sessions will cover officiating standards in practice, background checks, legal issues, conduct unbecoming, video and more. The Summit Opening will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. Lamell McMorris, lead negotiator for the National Basketball Referees Association and the World Umpires Association, will kick off the educational sessions the next day, Monday, July 28, at 8 a.m.
Scheduled to participate in various sessions are:
• John Adams, NCAA national coordinator for men’s basketball officiating; former high school and collegiate basketball official.
• Bob Delaney, NBA referee for more than 20 seasons with numerous NBA Finals appearances; former NASO Gold Whistle Award winner; former New Jersey state trooper who went undercover for nearly three years to infiltrate the mob.
• Alan Goldberger, sports law attorney and official who wrote Sports Officiating: A Legal Guide
• Bob Kanaby, NFHS executive director.
• Barry Mano, NASO president and Referee magazine publisher.
• Lisa Mattingly, Division I women’s basketball official and WNBA official with numerous Final Four and WNBA Finals appearances.
• Monty McCutchen, NBA referee who recently completed his 14th season; Referee magazine contributor and writer.
• John Parry, Named a referee in the NFL in 2007; former side judge assigned to the NFC Championship in 2005 and Super Bowl XLI in 2007.
• Mary Struckhoff, NCAA national coordinator of women’s basketball officiating and NFHS assistant executive director.
• Stephen Walkom, vice-president and director of officiating for the NHL and former NHL referee.
• Hank Zaborniak, Ohio High School Athletic Association assistant commissioner, responsible for administration of officials’ programs and regulations; NCAA football official, currently works in the Big 10 conference.
