HOCKEY ? A 39-year old father was placed on a special form of probation and banned from Connecticut hockey rinks for two years. He was ordered to contribute $1,000 to charity, and also ordered to pay the medical bills for the 18-year old hockey referee who was punched in the jaw following a youth hockey game. The father was upset over calls made by the official. The official suffered a sprained jaw, bruises and a black eye after being punched in the face following a May 4, 1998, Spring League youth hockey game at the South Windsor Arena, in Manchester. The adult was given an "accelerated rehabilitation" sentence, an alternative when the offense is not serious and the defendant has no prior criminal record. (5/98)

BASEBALL - A 17-year-old umpire was hit in the face with an aluminum bat by an irate Little League Coach. (5/94).
