FOOTBALL - In Parrish, AL, two football officials were attacked by a mob of fans after their team lost a high school playoff game. Just before the crowd attacked, the game's announcer said over the public address system that the officials "need to go back to school." (12/5/97)

BASEBALL - An umpire in Prattville, AL was held to the ground and kicked in the head by the coach of a children's baseball team. The umpire suffered a perforated eardrum, a broken thumb and a cut requiring 15 stitches. (7/18/97)
