Board Talks Insurance

Insurance and how to better educate assigners and coordinators of what NASO offers through its provider, American Specialty Insurance, took a good share of the Board of Directors summer meeting in San Antonio.

The board gathered July 31, prior to the start of the NASO Summit, and discussed a handful of strategic initiatives, but it was a review of the insurance landscape as it relates to sports officials in general and NASO members in particular that sparked questions and energy toward making it more aware to others not familiar with NASO.

Drew Smith, president of American Specialty Insurance & Risk Services, Inc., Roanoke, Ind., led the discussion.

The board members talked about the need to educate officials on the need for liability insurance, including at the conference level for universities and colleges.
