Palmer Receives WNBA Pioneer Award

NBA referee Violet Palmer, a former NASO board member, received the WNBA Boost Mobile Pioneer Award at a special luncheon in New York on Monday, Sept. 9. Palmer, the first woman to officiate in a major U.S. professional sport, has been an NBA official since the 1997-98 season. She will be entering her 17 season this year.

The recipient of the WNBA’s Pioneer Award is seen as a pioneer in the community and is passionate about her professional and personal endeavors through which she blazes trails for the next generation.

Palmer served on the NASO board of directors from 2005-08. She served as the NASO vice chair the final two years of her tenure.
