NASO Participates in ACC Football Officiating Clinic
Dec. 15, 2011 — The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Football Officials’ Mini-Clinic in early December provided officials of all levels a great educational opportunity at a minimal cost. The ACC staff provided training and networking opportunities for 500 youth, high school and small college football officials in attendance. All officials were also able to attend the ACC championship game that evening.
“It’s not a money-making thing,” said ACC Coordinator of Football Officiating, Doug Rhoads. “It’s strictly about outreach and doing the right thing for officiating at all levels.”
The event also provided an opportunity for NASO to outreach through a promotional booth at the clinic. Jim Arehart, NASO marketing director, attended the clinic on behalf of NASO and provided membership information about NASO and Referee magazine to those in attendance.
“What impresses me most is the commitment to all levels of officiating that the ACC demonstrates,” said Arehart. “The registration fee is minimal and can’t begin to cover the costs. ACC Coordinator of Football Officials Doug Rhoads and his staff clearly care about improving the quality of officiating everywhere. It’s another great example of the unity of officiating. We’re all in this together, and they all look at us the same — no matter what sport or level we’re working. What helps one of us, helps all of us.”
