NASO to Host the 2010 Sports Officiating Summit
RACINE, Wis. — The 2010 Sports Officiating Summit, presented by the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) in cooperation with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), will be held July 25-27 at the Marriott City Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
The theme for the 28th annual premier event for officiating leaders of all levels and sports is Rights, Requirements, Risks: The Shared Responsibility of Officiating.
NASO Summit sessions will cover the shared responsibility of officiating, handling conflicts of interest, legal issues, video breakdown and more. The Summit Opening will be held on Sunday, July 25, at 7 p.m. Bill Carollo, Midwest Football Officials Alliance coordinator and former NFL referee, will kick off the educational sessions the next day, Monday, July 26, at 8 a.m.
Some of the leaders scheduled to participate in other sessions include: Ron Johnson, NBA’s senior vice president of referee operations; Tony Corrente, NFL referee; Alan Goldberger, sports law attorney and official who wrote Sports Officiating: A Legal Guide; Jim Delany, Big Ten commissioner; Mike Port, MLB vice president of umpiring; Bob Gardner, NFHS executive director; Barry Mano, NASO president and Referee magazine publisher.
Attendance cost for the NASO Summit is $425 for NASO members and $525 for non-members. There is no charge to media with proper credentials. Media must register at NASO’s registration desk at the Minneapolis Marriot City Center.
