NASO Golf Challenge to Tackle Hell’s Point

(RACINE, Wis.) –The National Association of Sports Officials (NASO), today announced that the NASO 2001 Golf Challenge will be conducted at Hell’s Point Golf Club in Virginia Beach, Va., June 15. Individual entry fees are $95 per player. The registration deadline is June 1.

The format of play allows players of any skill level to compete for individual and team prizes. The tournament committee prior to play assigns each player a handicap. Prizes will be awarded for low gross, low net (individual and team), and various skill competitions will be conducted such as longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and more.

Renowned golf course architect Rees Jones had a devilish inspiration when he designed the 6,766 yard, par 72 course amid the natural splendor of lofty Virginia pines, tall hardwoods and shimmering lakes. Hell’s Point was built to emphasize course strategy with every hole requiring careful planning of one’s shots. Chosen "One of America’s 100 Best" by Golf Digest and "Best of the Beach" for 11 consecutive years, each hole at Hell’s Point offers four sets of strategically placed tees to make it fun for golfers of all skill levels. The Hell’s Point fairways are expertly maintained Tifway 419 Bermuda grass and the greens are a smooth Penncross Bent grass. Golf Business
magazine has named Hell’s Point pro shop "One of America’s 100 Best" four times.

The course has hosted hundreds of tournaments including the PGA Tour Qualifying School, AAU National Junior Olympics, Virginia State Golf Association State Open Qualifying and the Bruce Smith Celebrity Tournament.

The course recently completed a $1.5 million renovation of the fairways and facilities. Included in the renovation is the addition of the Parview GPS system to all golf carts. This allows golfers to accurately measure the distance from their ball to the green no matter where they are on the course. The system also provides individual scoring and a leaderboard during tournament play.

The $95 entry fee provides green and cart fees, range balls, a gift pack, pizza party following the golf, roundtrip transportation from the hotel to the course and more.

Fox 40 International President and NASO board member Ron Foxcroft, whose company sponsors the tournament says that the friendships you make on the golf course can last a lifetime.

"Just like officiating itself, you get to know the people you’re with and friendships develop," says Foxcroft. "This is an event that I absolutely love taking part in and am proud to be a sponsor."

If you or your company is interested in sponsoring a prize hole at the tournament, contact NASO Public Relations Manager and Tournament Director Bob Still at 262/632-5448 or via e-mail at bstill@naso.org
