Ilacqua Elected Chair of National Officials’ Organization
(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) — Julie Ilacqua (il-LA-qwa), director of membership services for the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) was elected chair of the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) at the organizations semi-annual board of directors meeting today.

Ilacqua replaces Ed T. Rush, director of officiating for the NBA, whose term expired.

"I am deeply touched and honored by this vote of confidence from my fellow board members," said Ilacqua. "NASO has such an exciting future ahead. I am looking forward to the challenges with great anticipation."

Elected to the NASO board in 1998, Ilacqua’s soccer career has spanned more than 20 years. She has served the sport as a player, coach, referee, administrator and committee member, working closely with the United States Amateur Soccer Association, with her most recent position being chair of the USSF National Referee Committee. In 1999 Ilacqua joined the USSF.

Prior to her joining the USSF staff, Ilacqua spent the last four years as director of volunteer services and special projects for the Michigan State Fair Exposition Center. Before that, she played an important part in the success of the Detroit venue for World Cup USA 1994 as the manager of volunteer services and game day communications director. In her role in the ’94 World Cup, she was responsible for recruiting, training, orientating and scheduling a volunteer staff of 1,500.

"Julie is a great visionary who has the ability to look at the total picture and understand how NASO can effectively impact all levels of officiating," said NASO President Barry Mano. "She has the talent to get to the core of an issue and offer solutions. She will be an effective leader for our board."

NASO is a voluntary membership, not-for-profit, educational association working to improve the skills and conditions for sports officials of all levels. Membership is worldwide and includes officials in virtually every sport and at all levels from youth leagues to the professional ranks.
