Sports officiating leaders from all levels of sports will gather to discuss the power of persuasive officiating. Sessions will cover pro officiating in the public eye, building strong relationships, legal issues, instant replay and more. The opening session on Sunday, July 29 (6:30 p.m.), will welcome attendees and keynote speaker Irv Brown, Denver resident and basketball officiating legend, will set the “working tone” for this important three-day event.
Scheduled to participate in various sessions are:
• Esse Baharmast, U.S. Soccer director of advanced and international referee development and former World Cup referee
• Patty Broderick, coordinator of NCAA Women’s Basketball Officiating Consortium, which includes the Big 10, C-USA, Mid-Continent, Mid-American, Horizon, Missouri Valley and Great Lakes Valley (Div. II) conferences
• Bill Carollo, Former NFLRA executive director, NFL referee and Super Bowl XXX and XXXVII official
• Lee Fjelstad, vice president of the Verbal Judo Institute who has instructed audiences on Verbal Judo in the United States, Canada, Scandinavia, the Caribbean, the Netherlands and England
• Alan Goldberger, sports law attorney and official who wrote Sports Officiating: A Legal Guide
• Ed Hightower, NCAA Division I men’s basketball official who has officiated eight NCAA Final Fours and three national championship games
• Ed Hochuli, NFL referee who has worked five conference championship games and two Super Bowls
• Sandra Hunt, FIFA instructor and assessor and U.S. Soccer national instructor and assessor
• Bob Kanaby, NFHS executive director
• Barry Mano, NASO president and Referee magazine publisher
• Jerry Markbreit, retired NFL referee
• Violet Palmer, NBA referee
